Everything you need to know about your new website: what it is, how it works, where it lives, who owns each part of it, what we still need from you, and how we take it from here to going live.
The house,online.
In short.A website for Lolldaiga River House in five languages, with seven pages, 37 photographs and a small editor of its own, called Studio, where you can change texts, photos and contact details yourself or ask Claude to do it for you. It is finished and running on a staging address. To go live it needs a domain in your name, your answers to a short list of open questions, an email address for enquiries, and a native-speaker read of the translations. We propose to host and look after it for CHF 20 a month, including two hours of our time every month.

What we built
A complete website for a private house on the Timau River in Laikipia, on the edge of the Lolldaiga Hills Conservancy: 12 acres, four en-suite bedrooms, room for eight. You can see it today at lolldaiga.by.wrketc.com.
What webuilt.
Every page is in English, German, French, Italian and Swahili.
Checked against the listing
ContentEvery fact on the site was taken from, and checked against, the Airbnb listing as it stood on 7 November 2026, and the 37 photographs come from it too. Where the listing was silent or unclear, we did not guess: those points are in the chapter “Still to confirm”.
The design
DesignThe look takes its cue from Tengile at Mala Mala: calm, generous, led by the photographs. The header, footer, buttons and type (Newsreader, Geist and Geist Mono) come from our own hotel starter, with a paper-grain texture made for this site. Along the way we also made two design explorations, at lolldaiga-samara.vercel.app and lolldaiga-pebble.vercel.app; they are sketches, not part of the delivery.
Studio, your own editor
StudioAt /studio, behind a password, you can change any text on the site in any of the five languages, swap or add photographs, and set the contact details. There is also a chat with Claude: describe the change in plain words (“make the hero say…”, “use the river photo on the home page”) and it makes it for you, using exactly the same tools as the editors.
Every change, yours or Claude's, is saved as one entry in a log and can be undone with one click. Your changes sit on top of the original site rather than replacing it, so nothing you do in Studio can break the site, and clearing your changes always brings back the original.
The booking bar and enquiry form are not live yet
Not yetBoth are in place and look finished, but neither is connected to anything: no enquiry is sent and no booking is taken. Until an enquiry address is set, guests should contact you by email. The chapter “Bookings” sets out what we recommend next.

How it's built
In plain words, for you, and in enough detail for any developer you might bring in later. The words in bold are explained in the glossary at the end.
How itworks.
Pages made in advance
The site is built with Next.js, the most widely used framework for sites of this kind. Every page is prepared in advance, in every language, so it opens quickly anywhere, including on a slow connection in Kenya. When you change something in Studio, the affected pages are rebuilt on the next visit (this is the cache being refreshed), so your change shows within moments.
Content kept as data
The words of each language live in their own file, and every fact about the house (rooms, beds, distances, rules, prices) lives in one file, the facts pack. Each fact records where it came from, and each section lists what is still to confirm. The site reads from these files, so a fact is changed once and is right everywhere.
Your changes, stored separately
What you change in Studio is stored as an override, in a small storage space attached to the site called a Blob store. Your uploaded photos live there too. Every save keeps a new version, and the last 100 versions are kept.
Hosting and measurement
The site runs on Vercel, a fast global hosting network. Fonts are served with the site itself, not from a third party. Visits are counted with Vercel Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify anyone.

Where it lives
The site is deployed today on our Vercel account, on a staging address, ready to move to its own domain.
Where itlives.
Your Studio password
SecurityThe password for Studio is stored in the project's environment, not in the code and not in this document. We send it to you separately. If you would like it changed, or think someone else may know it, tell us and we change it the same day.
The chat and its cost
Each message to Claude costs a few cents in usage, which we cover within the hosting fee. A guard stops any single message from going past $1, so a long or confused conversation can never run up a bill. If your use ever grows well beyond occasional edits, we will tell you before anything changes.

Who owns what
A careful handover says plainly where each part of the site lives and whose it is. The short version: the house, the listing and the domain are yours; we host the rest for you, and you can take it elsewhere at any time.
Who ownswhat.
Data and backups
There are three layers, and each is kept safe in its own way. The repository is the master copy of the site and its original texts and photos. Your Studio changes are versioned: the last 100 are kept, and the most recent can be undone in Studio with one click; older versions we can restore for you. Uploaded photos are kept in the Blob store, and removing a photo in Studio does not delete the file.
Analytics data
Vercel Analytics counts anonymous page views: which pages, how many, from which countries and devices. It sets no cookies and stores nothing that identifies a visitor, which is why the site needs no cookie banner. The data stays inside the project and is not shared with anyone; we can send you a summary whenever you like.

Still to confirm
The site says nothing it cannot stand behind, so where the listing was silent we left the point out or kept it general. These are the open points, from the facts pack; each one marked in orange needs an answer from you. Most take a line.

Going live
Six steps from the staging address to the house's own domain. Nothing changes for guests until the last one.
Goinglive.
The code is not on GitHub yet. We create the repository and invite you, so you hold a full copy of the site from the start.
We deploy and host the site through WRK's Vercel account. We propose this because of what Studio adds: the Blob store, the Claude API key and the page refresh after each change all need setting up and watching. If you would rather host it elsewhere, yourself or with someone else, we will gladly help set that up.
Hosting through WRK costs CHF 20 a month. It covers watching over the site and keeping it up, keeping the code and its software up to date, and two hours of our time every month for new pages, features or any changes.
The domain is registered in your name, and we point it at Vercel together with you.
Your answers to the chapter “Still to confirm” go in, the enquiry email is set, and the translations are read by native speakers.
We switch the domain over, check every page in every language, and the staging address steps aside.

Bookings
This version of the site does not take bookings or payments. Guests contact you by email, and the booking is arranged from there.
Bookingdirect.
We recommend taking bookings on the site itself.People commit far more readily with a form and a button than by writing an email and waiting for a reply, and some are lost at exactly that step. An automated system also takes less of your time.
What it would do
Guests would see availability, choose their dates and book the house directly on the site, while the calendar stays in step with Airbnb, Booking.com and any other channel: one calendar, and no double bookings.
What it would take
We have already researched how to handle the whole booking flow ourselves. It is about the same amount of work again as the site so far, and it runs within the hosting set-up described here. Studio was built with this step in mind, so nothing needs to be rebuilt. We will quote it whenever you would like.
